Two-week Advanced board & train

A two-week stay for adolescent dogs and dogs who know their cues at home but lose them everywhere else: everything in Foundation, plus distraction proofing, real-world outings, neutrality and two go-home coaching lessons.

What is Advanced board & train?

Advanced is the longer of Dogtown’s two board-and-train programs. Over two weeks your dog covers everything in Foundation, then takes those skills further: longer, further away, with more distraction, and out in the real world.

It is built for the adolescent stretch, when a dog who listened as a puppy suddenly seems to forget everything, and for dogs whose manners fall apart the moment something interesting happens. Training is fear- and force-free, led by Gabriella Pope, and ends with two scheduled coaching lessons for you.

Who it’s for

  • Adolescent dogs testing every boundary
  • Dogs who listen at home but not in public
  • Dogs who pull, lunge or get over-excited around other dogs and people
  • Owners who want reliable manners on walks and outings

The skills

What your dog learns in Advanced

These are the skills the program covers. Gabby agrees the priorities with you at the assessment, so you know what is being worked on before day one.

01

Everything in Foundation

Obedience, leash skills, place, stay, recall, impulse control, crate and household manners, daycare integration and enrichment.

02

Advanced obedience and distraction proofing

The same cues held for longer, from further away and with more going on around your dog.

03

Real-world outings

Practice away from the building, so skills are not tied to one room or one yard.

04

Neutrality and impulse control

Staying calm and unbothered around other dogs, people and busy places, rather than reacting to everything.

05

Confidence building

Gentle, paced exposure that helps a dog cope with new places, sounds and surfaces.

06

Structured socialization

Controlled, carefully matched introductions instead of a free-for-all.

How the stay runs

The shape of a 2 weeks stay

Foundations first

The Foundation skills come first, so the advanced work has something solid to build on.

Then proofing

The same cues again with more duration, more distance and more distraction.

Real-world outings

Sessions away from the building, so your dog learns that the cues still apply out in the world.

A daily update

An update each day across both weeks so you can follow the progress.

Every dog is different, so the exact rhythm of the day is set by the plan, not a fixed timetable.

After the stay

Two scheduled go-home coaching lessons

Advanced includes two coaching lessons instead of one. The first hands the skills over to you; the second, once you have had time to practice, irons out whatever has slipped and builds on what is working.

Training only lasts if it is practiced. A skill your dog is no longer asked for, or rewarded for, fades over time, so the go-home coaching is about you as much as your dog.

Included

Every Advanced stay includes

An overnight suite

Your dog sleeps in a quiet suite with comfortable bedding and 24/7 monitoring.

Daily training

Training every day of the stay, planned around the goals agreed at the assessment.

Daycare integration

Time in a small playgroup of 7–10 dogs matched by size and temperament, when your dog is ready.

Enrichment

Brain work as well as exercise, in a 10,000 sq. ft. facility built for dogs.

Daily updates

An update every day, so you can follow along while your dog is with us.

Go-home coaching

One lesson with Foundation, two with Advanced, so the skills keep working at home.

FAQs

Advanced questions

What is distraction proofing?
Proofing means practicing a cue your dog already knows under harder conditions: holding it for longer, with you further away, and with more going on nearby. Trainers call these the three Ds: duration, distance and distraction. It is what turns a sit in a quiet room into a sit on a busy sidewalk.
Where do the real-world outings go?
Outings take training away from our building so skills hold up in new places. Where and how often depends on your dog and the plan Gabby builds, and we go over it with you at the assessment.
What does Advanced cost?
Each stay is quoted after a short assessment, because the plan depends on your dog. The evaluation is free. Ask for the current figure on the enquiry form.
