Peabody, MA board and train
Board and train for Peabody, MA dogs: one- or two-week fear-free stays in Gloucester, straight up Route 128, with a free evaluation and van pick-up on request.
One highway, one turn: the easy drive from Peabody
Peabody is where I-95 and Route 128 meet, which makes the trip to Gloucester about as simple as it gets. Get on 128 north, stay on it through Danvers, Beverly and Manchester until it ends in Gloucester, and you are a few turns from 210 Eastern Ave.
That matters for a board and train, because you will drive it at least three times: the free evaluation, the drop-off and the pick-up with your go-home lesson. The evaluation slots are early, 6:30 to 9:30 AM on weekdays, so many Peabody owners do it before work. If you would rather not drive, the Pup Van can collect board-and-train dogs from Peabody, priced on request.
Who the two programs are for
The one-week Foundation stay is aimed at puppies, young dogs and dogs who never got the basics. It covers obedience, leash skills, place, stay, recall, impulse control and crate and household manners, and ends with one go-home lesson.
The two-week Advanced stay is for adolescent dogs and dogs who listen at home but not in public. It includes everything in Foundation, then distraction proofing, real-world outings, neutrality, confidence building and structured socialization, with two go-home lessons. Our one week vs two week comparison walks through the decision.
| Your Peabody dog | Likely program |
|---|---|
| Puppy with house-training gaps and nipping | Foundation |
| Young dog that jumps on every visitor | Foundation |
| Teenager that drags you toward other dogs on the Greenway | Advanced |
| Dog that panics or guards food | Assessment; possibly behavior modification |
Practising on the Independence Greenway and around the city
The Peabody Independence Greenway is the city’s longest greenway, a 4.6-mile paved multi-use path, according to the City of Peabody. Bikes, runners and strollers come by at a steady rhythm, which is exactly the kind of repetition a dog needs to learn calm passing. Check the city’s current leash rules for the path before you go.
Brooksby Farm, the city-owned farm on Felton Street, has walking paths through orchards and fields and gets busy in pick-your-own season. Check the farm’s current dog policy first; if dogs are welcome, it is a good later-stage outing with crowds, children and food smells. Start every new place at its quietest hour.
What happens each day of the stay
A typical day starts early with a short training session, then rest, then enrichment in a 10,000 sq. ft. facility, then more training. Sessions stay short so your dog stays keen. Dogs who are ready for it also join a small playgroup of 7 to 10 matched by size and temperament.
Each evening your dog settles into its own overnight suite, which is monitored around the clock. You get a daily update, and Gabby, Dogtown’s Director of Training & Canine Behaviorist, oversees the plan she agreed with you at the assessment. Our daily updates page explains what to expect.
Dogs who need more than manners
Not every Peabody dog with a problem needs a board and train. If your dog is very fearful, guards food or toys, or has bitten, Gabby will look closely at the cause before recommending anything. Some of those dogs do well in Advanced; others are better served by Dogtown’s behavior-modification programs, which run six to ten weeks, or by a conversation with a veterinarian or veterinary behaviorist first.
That honest triage is part of what you get from the assessment. Nobody can promise to fix behavior in a set number of days, and we don’t; we make sure you leave knowing how to keep practising.
Paperwork and pricing
Peabody dogs are licensed through the City Clerk. Have the license ready, with proof of Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella, when you come for the free evaluation. Pack your dog’s regular food in daily portions, any medication labeled, and one familiar item from home.
The stay is quoted after the assessment rather than from a published price. Start with the enquiry form and ask about van pricing from Peabody at the same time.
