Board and train for Seabrook, NH dogs
Board and train for Seabrook, NH dogs: one- or two-week fear-free stays in Gloucester, MA, with a free evaluation and Pup Van pick-up from Seabrook on request.
Seabrook’s beach hours shape the summer
Seabrook’s town code allows animals on the town beaches between Memorial Day and Labor Day only before 8 AM and after 6 PM. The same chapter requires owners to remove dog waste immediately from streets, beaches, sidewalks and parks.
Those early and late windows are excellent training time. A quiet beach at 7 AM is a good place to work on loose-leash walking, calm settles and recall on a long line, before the crowds arrive. Arrive early, leave when the beach starts to fill, and you will set your dog up to succeed. Outside the summer season, check current beach rules with the town before you go.
Close to the border, still a drive
Seabrook is as close as New Hampshire gets to us, but Gloucester is still a drive: I-95 south past Newburyport to Peabody, then Route 128 north to the end of the highway. Some families use Route 1 south or Route 1A along the coast instead.
That distance is why a stay works better than a weekly class. You visit for the free evaluation on a weekday morning between 6:30 and 9:30, bring your dog for the stay, and return for pick-up and go-home coaching. The Pup Van can help too: its $10 flat fare covers only Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea, so ask for van pricing from Seabrook on the enquiry form. Our pick-up and drop-off page has the details.
What your dog learns, week by week
In the first week, every dog works on the core skills of Foundation: obedience, leash skills, place, stay and recall, impulse control, and crate and household manners, with enrichment and playgroup time when ready. Foundation ends there, with one go-home lesson.
Advanced continues into a second week of distraction proofing, real-world outings, neutrality, confidence building and structured socialization, then two scheduled go-home lessons. Choose it for an adolescent who is polite at home but pulls toward every dog in the Route 1 plazas or on the beach. Gabby, our Director of Training & Canine Behaviorist, confirms the right program at the opening assessment.
Route 1 shopping plazas and other everyday triggers
Seabrook’s Route 1 corridor is lined with big shopping plazas, busy parking lots and pet-friendly stores. For a young dog, the car park alone can be overwhelming: trolleys, slamming doors, strangers wanting to say hello. Add the summer beach traffic and the town has plenty of real-world practice on offer.
Use it gradually. Start at the quiet edge of a parking lot at an off-peak time and reward your dog for calmly watching people and cars, then move closer over several visits. Our neutrality in town guide explains how to pace that work.
During the stay
Your dog lives at Dogtown for the program, sleeping in an overnight suite with 24/7 monitoring. Days combine short training sessions, rest, enrichment in our 10,000 sq. ft. facility and, once the evaluation shows readiness, a playgroup of 7–10 dogs matched by size and temperament. You get an update each day.
Before drop-off, tell us about your dog’s routine in Seabrook: the early beach walks, the car rides along Route 1, who is home during the day. That helps Gabby shape the training goals around your real week, and it means the go-home coaching can focus on the moments you actually face, such as getting out of the car calmly at a busy lot.
If your dog has significant fear, reactivity or guarding, tell us up front. Dogtown’s behavior-modification programs run six to ten weeks, and Gabby will be honest about which route is right.
NH license, vaccines and price
New Hampshire licenses run May 1 to April 30, and every dog four months and older must be licensed in its home town each year. In Seabrook that is the Town Clerk, with online licensing through eb2gov. Before check-in we need the license, plus Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella records.
Each stay is priced after the assessment, and the evaluation is free. We reply within one hour on business days.
