Board and train in Woburn, MA
Board and train for Woburn, MA dogs: one- or two-week fear-free stays in Gloucester via Route 128, a free evaluation, and van pick-up from Woburn on request.
Does a Gloucester board and train make sense from Woburn?
Yes, if you choose the stay format. Woburn sits where I-93 meets Route 128, and getting to us means following Route 128 north through Peabody and Beverly until it ends in Gloucester. That is too far to drive for a weekly class without it becoming a chore, but very manageable for a few planned visits.
Those visits are the free evaluation, drop-off, pick-up and go-home coaching. Everything in between is daily training while your dog lives with us, sleeping in an overnight suite with 24/7 monitoring and sending you a daily update. See our how it works page for the full sequence.
Woburn’s 8-foot leash rule and what to practise
Woburn’s ordinance on animals says dogs may not run at large and, in any public street or place, must be on a chain or leash no longer than eight feet. That is a little more generous than the six-foot limit in many neighbouring towns, but the principle is the same: the leash is always on in public.
So the skill that matters most is a loose leash. A dog who walks without pulling on a six- to eight-foot lead is a pleasure on the sidewalks of Woburn Center or the paths around Horn Pond. Both programs teach leash skills; Advanced adds the distraction proofing that makes it hold up when a jogger or another dog appears. Our leash pulling page breaks down the training.
Horn Pond, Woburn Center and the station: a practice route
Horn Pond is the classic Woburn dog walk, and on a weekend morning it has everything: runners, families, bikes and plenty of dogs. Use it in stages after the stay, starting at the quietest times and keeping your dog leashed under the city rule.
Woburn Center, with its traffic, crossings and shoppers, is the next step. The hardest test is Anderson Regional Transportation Center or Mishawum on the Lowell commuter rail line, where trains, crowds and big parking lots come together. Visit at quiet hours, stay at a distance where your dog can still eat treats, and finish early.
- Quiet: your street, early-morning Horn Pond
- Busier: Horn Pond on a weekend, Woburn Center
- Hardest: around Anderson RTC at off-peak times
- Every time: leash on, short sessions, leave on a good note
Foundation or Advanced for a Woburn dog
Foundation, one week, is for puppies, young dogs and dogs missing manners: obedience, leash skills, place, stay, recall, impulse control, crate and household habits, plus enrichment and playgroup time when ready. It ends with one go-home lesson.
Advanced, two weeks, includes all of that plus distraction proofing, real-world outings, neutrality, confidence building and structured socialization, with two scheduled go-home lessons. Gabby, our Director of Training & Canine Behaviorist, recommends one at the opening assessment. Dogs with serious fear, guarding or reactivity may be better served by Dogtown’s behavior-modification programs of six to ten weeks.
Woburn license deadline and the other paperwork
Woburn licenses expire on December 31 and should be renewed by March 15; the fee rises after that date, and there is a separate penalty for an unregistered dog. The City Clerk handles them online, by mail or with a drop-off. You will need the license for the stay, along with Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella on file.
Pack pre-portioned meals of your dog’s usual food, any medications clearly labeled, and one comfort item. Dogtown provides bedding and enrichment. The full list is on our packing page.
